the editor sounds like a dream! i've realized i crave rigorous feedback and volleying of ideas--a partner, really--which sometimes goes beyond the scope of my writing group or editors i only work with one-off once something has already been sold. thanks for the inspiration.
Every time Ive taken a micro or low dose of mushrooms and then hung out in nature, Ive had a creative breakthrough. Like you said, could it have happened without it? Not sure, but I’m rolling with it. Great recs!
This was a fun list! I hired a developmental editor for my current novel and it was a game changer. Best investment ever. You have me willing to give Scrivener another try in hopes I will fall in love this time. And I am ordering that neck reading light. Brilliant! Also, ginger shots are the bomb. Not so sure about the mushrooms, though, I have such a fear of mind-altering substances. Maybe curiosity or writer's block will win out one day....
Yes, it's Eric Smith. I didn't list him in the piece because he is not taking on new projects at the moment (he has a full time job as managing editor at the Sewanee Review), but when I compile my list (actively working on the list!) he will be on it.

I'm trying to compile a list of freelance editors - stay tuned.
Looking forward to your list! Thanks for putting together. Enjoyed this post.

Highly recommend Sandra Newman as an editor! She gave me line notes on my manuscript and it made me completely rethink the plot.
I’m not a writer and still I’m inspired by your writing and live vicariously through you. It’s delightful! Thank you ❣️
Thank you for reading Ester! I love you. And you could definitely write - the stories you could tell!!

This was so good. And now I need that ginger juicer!
Thank you, Amy.
Would you share your editor's name? Thanks for the recommendations! I have the reading light and it's a travel-must-have as well.

Hi Stephanie. Thank you for this!
I used a terrific developmental editor based in the UK, Deana Luchia. Very reasonably priced. Reedsy is a good option too, friends have told me.
